Breathing is a cornerstone of emotion. How you breath is a reflection of how you are feeling, and how you are feeling can be influenced by how you breath. This is even more important because it is possible to consciously control how you are breathing, and as a result you can use it to influence your emotions.
Determining how it is that you habitually breath is the first step, and then understanding what has influenced your breathing style allows you to acknowledge both environmental and emotional factors.
This is important because health and fitness can influence your breathing patterns, and simply disregarding this will cause you to overlook, and therefore not adapt to key constraints.
Aside from this you do want to remember that calm, contented breathing is deep, slow and rhythmic. In other words it is relaxed breathing that allows you to fill your lungs with air, pausing to rest and then comfortably breathing out, fully letting go.
So for a moment simply consider that last line, 'fully letting go.' Do you have any idea of what that means emotionally, what that means in terms of being open and vulnerable? See if you can do it? Take a deep breath in, hold and then let go.
Breathing through the feeling is an approach which encourages you to sit with and manage the feeling without drowning in it. In the same way as it does with physical pain, breathing can help you to better tolerate emotional pain allowing it to pass.
